BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Choose the questions relevant to your concern and bring them to your consultation.

What are you asking the surgeon to assess?

Explain whether your concern is crease appearance, eyelid opening, skin, symmetry or a combination. Ask the clinician to separate what you see from what the examination shows. A label such as "double eyelid" does not explain every concern around the eyes.

What can reference images help with?

Images can communicate a preference for a visible crease or a particular shape. They do not establish that the same change is possible or appropriate for you. Ask what differences in anatomy affect the comparison and what the proposed surgery would not achieve.

There is no need to accept a procedure on the day you first hear about it. Ask for written information, risks and alternatives, and take time to consider the decision.

Discuss the proposed procedure and its alternatives.Questions for choosing a clinic

What should you disclose privately?

Tell the clinician about previous eye treatments, symptoms, contact lenses, medicines, allergies and relevant medical conditions through the clinic's confirmed process. Do not stop or change prescribed medicines based on a website; ask the treating clinician for advice.

NHS guidance notes that an existing medical condition may affect whether eyelid surgery is appropriate. NHS · Eyelid surgery

What should you ask about risks?

Eyelid surgery can involve dry eyes, difficulty closing the eyes, bleeding, infection, scarring and changes in vision. The risks depend on the procedure and the person. ASPS · Eyelid surgery risks

Ask the surgeon to explain which risks apply to the proposed plan, what alternatives exist, and how follow-up is arranged.

What should you bring to the consultation?

Bring a clear description of what bothers you, when it began, and what you hope will change. If you have had previous surgery, request the operative report and share it through the clinic's secure channel. Tell the clinician about medicines, allergies, eye symptoms and other treatments.

If you are traveling, confirm who will explain consent and aftercare in a language you understand, where follow-up will happen, and what happens if you need care after returning home. NHS · Cosmetic surgery abroad

Questions & answers

Does choosing a crease shape choose the operation?

No. The surgeon needs to assess anatomy, function, goals and risks before explaining the options.

Can this site tell me whether I need ptosis correction?

No. An eyelid-opening concern needs clinical assessment. A self-check or photo is not a diagnosis.
