Which risks are described in patient guidance?

ASPS lists anesthesia risks, bleeding, infection, dryness, difficulty closing the eyes, outward rolling of the lower eyelid, scarring, possible revision and temporary or permanent changes in vision. ASPS · Eyelid surgery risks

This is not a complete consent discussion. Ask which risks relate to your procedure, how your medical history affects the assessment, and how complications would be treated.

NHS guidance also describes uneven appearance, scarring and rare serious eye complications. It states that results cannot be guaranteed. NHS · Eyelid surgery

What does recovery mean in your plan?

Being able to do some daily activities, having less visible bruising and seeing a settled result are different milestones. Ask the surgeon to explain them separately.

What if something unexpected happens?

NHS guidance advises contacting the operating clinic as soon as possible for severe pain or unexpected symptoms after eyelid surgery. NHS · Eyelid surgery

If you think you have a medical emergency, seek urgent local medical care. Do not wait for a website or messaging reply. Before surgery, obtain written instructions on warning signs and how to contact the treating team.

Who handles care after you return home?

NHS guidance recommends asking where follow-up will happen, what happens if complications arise and what further treatment or return travel would cost. NHS · Cosmetic surgery abroad

Confirm arrangements before surgery. The information site is not an emergency service and does not provide postoperative care.

Questions & answers

Does a low advertised complication rate prove safety?

No. Ask what outcome was counted, over what period, in how many patients and whether the figure applies to the proposed procedure.

Can I use another patient's recovery time to book flights?

No. Ask your treating clinician about your procedure and recovery. Travel plans may need to change.
