BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Choose the questions relevant to your concern and bring them to your consultation.
Open the consultation checklistWhat does each term tell you?
NHS guidance describes lower-eyelid surgery involving repositioning or removal of fat, sometimes with a small amount of skin removal and support of eyelid tissues. NHS · Eyelid surgery
The label alone does not tell you whether skin is treated, where the incision is, or whether eyelid support is included. Ask for those details rather than choosing from a two-column price list.
Which details belong in the comparison?
| Detail | Ask the surgeon |
|---|---|
| Fat | Will it be repositioned, removed, preserved or managed in another way? |
| Skin | Is skin removal proposed? If so, why and where? |
| Incision | Will the approach be below the lashes or inside the eyelid? |
| Support | Will any additional support be considered? What finding makes it relevant? |
| Limits | Which hollows, skin changes or discoloration are unlikely to change? |
ASPS distinguishes a lower-lash-line approach from a transconjunctival approach inside the eyelid. Ask which approach is proposed for you and why. ASPS · Eyelid surgery procedure
What should you know about complications?
Dry eyes, difficulty closing the eyes and outward rolling of the lower eyelid are among the risks listed by ASPS. Ask how your surgeon assesses and discusses these risks in your case. ASPS · Eyelid surgery risks
Do not compare clinics by an unsupported claim of "zero complications." Ask how complications are recognized, managed and paid for, and where follow-up will take place.
What should you bring to the consultation?
Bring a clear description of what bothers you, when it began, and what you hope will change. If you have had previous surgery, request the operative report and share it through the clinic's secure channel. Tell the clinician about medicines, allergies, eye symptoms and other treatments.
If you are traveling, confirm who will explain consent and aftercare in a language you understand, where follow-up will happen, and what happens if you need care after returning home. NHS · Cosmetic surgery abroad
Questions & answers
Which option is better?
There is no general winner between labels that can overlap. Compare the actual surgical plan and the reasons given for it.
Can the inside-lid approach remove excess skin?
ASPS describes the transconjunctival incision as not removing skin through that approach. Ask whether any separate skin treatment is proposed.
